About The Artwork

Sculpted from a rescued piece of Tasmanian oak off a building site. While maintaining the builders angle cut at the top I have then cut two forms in the shape of birds...a mother and its chick. The smaller of the two, the chick is looking up to its mother ..dependant of her. . The base is made from a piece of Jarrah, supporting the main structure...the sculpture that houses the birds, each being dependant of each other.

I am a self taught artist who has a passion in working with wood. I am inspired by the grain in timber. I see the intricate heart of the Maker in each individual piece. Hence the name of my business: mymakersgrain. Like to give credit back to the timbers origin. I also draw my style from natural formations. I am particularly drawn by the effects of erosion on wood and stone. How over time the elements have themselves sculpted those mediums with such effects as the appearance of a finely sculpted piece of work, whilst leaving the stone or wood with its natural rough texture in part. I find this inspires me to create works that have both a smooth and rough natural look. I enjoy the contrast. Sometimes you will find in my work, that I also leave traces of the timbers former life. e.g: nail holes and saw cuts, to add to the character and identity to the medium being shaped. I hope that through my art you will see not only my efforts to convert and shape a piece of nature into an aesthetic work of art but to also admire and appreciate the gift of nature that we have been given. Love to all, Antony...a wood artist.
