About The Artwork

This Desert Ironwood G+ Hand Turned wood Bowl #14283 is a signed and numbered hand turned bowl by the well known American "Wooden Bowl Maker" David Walsh. It measures 5.75" at its widest diameter and 2" tall at its highest point. Desert Ironwood is a premium wood from the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico, and we get our ironwood specifically from Arizona. It is highly prized for its unique combination of characteristics. You’ll find that the wood color ranges from orangish yellow to darker red or brown and often has darker violet to black streaks. Ironwood is, as its name indicates, a very hard and heavy wood - one of the heaviest woods in the world and actually sinks in water. There is limited access to ironwood, and these limits make recovery of ironwood very expensive and hard to find. It is prized for specialty projects, jewelry, carvings and especially knife handles.
