About The Artwork

The idea for the 9-part installation "DISCO_nnect" was the image of a broken cable: all phases lean in different directions. In terms of content, this can be transferred to dancers in a discotheque: everyone dances alone without a common goal and yet everyone is connected through the music. This is illustrated by the differently curved basalt stelae, which were then polished.

"Basalt...columns, spheres, plates, bombs, gray, brown, black, ocher, rugged and soft. I love these frozen forms that tell stories of eruptive power and the cool core that can be peeled out of them." (Christoph Jakob) The transformation of the original stone shape to the final sculptural appearance reveals Jacob's artistic energy and creativity. Nothing can be seen of the difficult work process when the sculpture rests on its pedestal, as the artist always knows how to maintain a harmonious balance between his creative interventions and the stone's own dynamic. (Elisabeth Claus, NVK Aschaffenburg)
