This artwork presents a group of penguins, on the way to jump from a cliff. The dive is necessary to get food, but represents a risk, since predators are looking for food too. The inspiration for this work come from the famous Salgado's picture of the penguins on the Antarctic ice pack. The peculiar blue patina I've chosen for this bronze aims to represent the light reflected from the ocean. I used a smooth clay to model the sculpture, cause it would be appropriate to enhance the reflection of light on the edges. This sculpture is the first of a limited series of only 3 bronzes (N° 1/3). It has been poured in bronze in May 2018 at Fonderia Artistica Mapelli, an historical foundry near Milan (Italy), with the "lost wax" process, as can be seen by the mark of the foundry on the side of the sculpture. On the opposite side of the sculpture I've applied my monogram (FZA). You will find also my signature, the year (2018) ant the serial number (N° 1/3). On the back the foundry has applied an hook to hang the sculpture to the wall (weight: 8,8 pounds). There are also two threaded holes, useful if one prefers to set the sculpture on a vertical board (e.g. a slab of marble). The first resin-cast of this sculpture (Artist Proof I) has been exposed in April 2018 in the exhibition "Segno, forma, colore" at "Palazzo Rorà" (Bene Vagienna, Italy), an art exhibition curated by Angelo Mistrangelo and Gian Giorgio Massara (work in catalogue).
