About The Artwork
As part of the 19 sculptors taking part for a competition for the Emmeline Pankhurst sculpture to be erected in Manchester, I also produced a portrait bust of the Suffragette leade alongside a small maquette. My design wasn't chosen but I have gone on to create more portrait busts in series of Suffragettes and Suffragists. There are few sculptures representing these brave women and so I chose this medium to represent them in a lifelike way and give them significance.
