A graduate of Hunter College, Janet Suslak Indick studied art at Hunter with Robert Motherwell and Dong Kingman. She continued post- graduate work with Richard Pousette¬ Dart. Today she is a highly regarded award winning artist, a recipient of a Medal of Honor and a New Jersey State Fellowship in sculpture, and International awards. In 2011, she was inducted into Hunter College’s Hall of Fame. Janet creates colorful contemporary sculptures in welded steel, aluminum bronze and clay. Her painting, prints and collage art work is inspired by nature, architecture, music, history, bible, and current events. She has exhibited her sculptures, paintings and medallic art nationally and internationally in solo juried and invitational exhibitions at numerous Museums, Galleries and Universities, exhibiting with such artists as Picasso, Miro, Moore and Stella. One reviewer writes: “Indick’s maquettes convey themes of nature and architectural grandeur.” She has received sculpture commissions for Synagogues, and several of her large-scale Sculpture and Paintings are in the permanent collections of Universities, Corporations, Museums in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and in private collections in Israel. Her listings include Who’s Who of American Art, 2008, Contemporary Women Artists, Women Artists in America, and Dictionary of American Sculptors. Best American Sculptors, Who’s Who Among American Medallists. 2015. Her archival Records are in Nat. Mus. Of Women in the Arts, Wash DC, Stormking Art Center NY, Rutgers Univ. Women Artist Archives and the Zimmerly Museum at Rutgers Univ Serving as an officer for many National and International professional Art Organizations, including a term as President of the National Association of Women Artists, she also served actively in community organizations, taught in public school, and is a retired director of an Early Child hood Center. Janet Indick’s art has been represented by the Lillian Heidenberg Gallery in New York, and the Kerygma gallery in New Jersey.
