About The Artwork
In Japan, like in no other country, the ideal of smooth, even transparent skin has long been pursued for a long time. No wonder that geishas invariably remain the quintessence of female beauty. They have been setting trends among wealthy Japanese people since the 18th century, and thus are regarded as unquestioned style experts. The sculpture was inspired by the legendary Oiran courtesan, who initiated Japanese fashion for a very light face, delicately depilated eyebrows and red lips (geisha style).
