About The Artwork

A friend brought me this child’s chair he found sitting sadly beside the road. He said it called out to him, “Take me to Janet please!" So he did...After a lengthy exam I found all it needed was a backbone. Often my works originate from amazing things that happen to appear or I am magically given. On the best days I discover things I want the world to see in a new way. But that requires me first shifting my perspective to a state of wonder and trust. In this work, I wanted to create a physical reminder of our oneness with the natural world; to say that no “thing”, including our “selves”, ever truly dies but transforms instead to a new, infinitely more valuable entity. I agree with Reba McEntire who said, “TO SUCCEED IN LIFE YOU NEED: A WISHBONE, A BACKBONE AND A FUNNY BONE”, especially the funny bone part! GOT A BACKBONE is made from an old child's chair, a deer backbone and metal name plates.
