He Speaks Sculpture

In this piece I wanted to address the idea of the integration and definition of character and personality, of how we adopt a stance for ourselves in the world whether right or wrong. I was also extending my interest in transparency and translucency. I felt the symbolism of almost, but not quite, being able to discern the interior of the enclosed space was a good metaphor for our perception of others. We can have insight into other people's interior lives without ever quite grasping their vision of the world. The piece is made of Japanese plant paper which after having been worked with imagery and paint has been waxed to the point of translucency before being mounted on a basswood structure.
