ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Introducing "Icy Wonders" - a small-scale paper sculpture measuring 6x6 inches that invites viewers on an immersive journey inspired by the depths of the ocean. Created by Olga Skorokhod, this artwork embodies a fusion of inspiration, medium, subject matter, and style that aims to evoke specific emotions and thoughts in its viewers. Drawing inspiration from the profound depth and textures found in natural ocean formations, Olga Skorokhod sought to capture the captivating beauty and mystery of underwater ecosystems. The smaller decorative abstract pieces adorning the top layer of "Icy Wonders" are reminiscent of a vibrant coral reef, showcasing the intricate complexities of marine life. This natural wonder served as a driving force behind the creation of this piece. When presenting "Icy Wonders" to its viewers, Olga hopes to evoke a sense of awe and wonder. By immersing oneself in the intricately layered surfaces, she intends to transport viewers to a realm of frozen enchantment, where the imagination takes flight. Through the interplay of light, shadow, and the illusion of depth, Olga invites viewers to explore and discover the hidden beauty within the artwork. It is her desire that viewers feel a connection to the beauty of the ocean and reflect upon the fragility and importance of preserving our underwater ecosystems.

Olga passionate about art ever since she was a kid. She feels like she was born to be an artist. The choice of profession was obvious to her. Olga formerly worked as an illustrator, graphic designer and she painted photorealistic portraits on commission  before turning to full-time paper artist.  Skorokhod experimented with different techniques and materials while she was in Ukraine in hopes of finding her own art style in which she could constantly develop and be recognized worldwide. But it wasn’t until she completely stepped out of her comfort zone and moved to the U.S. that she eventually found it. Art is necessary for Olga. It’s like breathing. You can’t live without oxygen, so Olga can’t live without art. She craved to create. Since Olga had a small budget and couldn’t afford paint and canvas, she started working with the most affordable printer paper. It turns out paper was exactly what Olga has been looking for because she always liked monochromatic high textured artworks, and cutting by hand was a form of healing meditation for her. "If you are a professional artist and you have a sense of destiny to create, then you can make a piece of art from anything. It doesn't matter what materials and tools to use." That is how Olga Skorokhod’s paper art journey began. Olga’s sculptures are created by inspiration of nature's fascinating beauty. She likes natural formation and their textures. Olga intends for each viewer to feel an emotional response to her works by sharing through her universe of artistic expression. Olga’s work showcases strong rhythms between space and shape and favors complementary color palettes. Her artworks have the illusion of 3D because of the paper sculpture techniques she uses. Today, Olga Skorokhod is a prizewinning artist whose works have been featured in more than 50 exhibitions nationally and internationally. Olga’s works are in private collections in more than 15 countries. She has publications In more than 15 blog posts. Olga’s  artworks were featured on CNN Indonesia. Olga Skorokhod is a bestselling woman artist on Saatchi Art. Also, her works are included in “The Paper Craft Ideas Book” by Jessica Baldry. Paper sculptures were selected by Austrian company “MM Carton” between 13 selected artists from all over the world for the corporate Passion of Cartonboard 2018 and 2019 calendar. Several students have written their diplomas and doctorates based on Olga’s works.
