About The Artwork

I have now produced this work in Bronze and designed a new pyramid base. The wooden base maquette will soon be made in steel. The small suspended figure will also be made of bronze. I was unhappy with the routine functional base and began to make alternative plinths and even hung the sphere from the ceiling. Originally the work was inspired by Icarus from reading Greek mythology. I have for a long time admired Dega's Miss La La at the Cirque Fernando in Paris, hanging more than 60ft above the crowd, suspended by her teeth. That is how Degas portrays her in the painting. Do we not ourselves sometimes feel as if we were getting too close to the sun or just hanging on by our teeth ?
