About The Artwork
I recently did a mosaic kitchen backsplash, about 15 feet long. It's a landscape, but I did it as if it was a pixelated photograph, with each pixel represented by a one inch square of glass. You may be wondering why I'm telling you this. Here's the thing: that got me thinking about recreating photos in glass. And I wondered about reproducing a blurry image. So, here we have a lily. The distinct, in focus part of the image is the pistol and stamens. Everything else is a bit blurry, a bit abstract. This is all glass- sheet, frit, powder and stringers. I've slumped it into a mildly curved shape.

I've been working with glass for over 20 years in my studio in British Columbia, Canada. My eyesight is such that I like to be close to a piece as I'm creating it, so I spend a lot of time hovering over my workspace. For the same reason, I suppose, I like to work with tiny pieces of glass, which I then fuse together.
