Madonna della Scala Sculpture

"Madonna della Scala" (Madonna of the Stairs) is a tribute to the famous bas-relief by youth Michelangelo Buonarroti, representing Saint Mary ant the Holy Child. I had the opportunity to observe the original masterpiece in Florence in summer 2017, during a period of study at "The Florence Academy of Art". This sculpture was born with the purpose to represent the "hidden side" of the" bas-relief, and the meaning behind this votive subject. This sculpture is the first of a limited edition of only 3 bronzes (N° 1/3). It has been poured in bronze in April 2018 at Fonderia Artistica Mapelli, an historical foundry near Milan (Italy), with the "lost wax" process, as can be seen by the mark of the foundry on the back of the sculpture. On the front of the sculpture I've applied my monogram (FZA). On the back, you will also find my signature, the year (2018) and the serial number (N° 1/3). The peculiar patina I've chosen for this bronze gives to the sculpture a very luminous, classic and precious aspect. The clay I used to model the sculpture is a medium-grain type, and the scale is about a quarter. I've made this choice to avoid too many details, and to focus the attention of the observer on the whole group. This artwork has been exposed for the first time in Turin (Italy) in May 2018, in the exhibition "La luce dell'annuncio" (The light of the announcement) at "Spazio Demarchi".
