About The Artwork

The sculpture "Migingo" is my vision of what this small island on Lake Victoria will become after some time. This work is comic. Its area is half the size of a football field, and its population does not exceed 150 people. For the past 20 years, Migingo has been the subject of heated territorial disputes between Uganda and neighboring Kenya. Because of this conflict, neither of the two countries can include it in their composition, which gives the right to consider Migingo a relatively autonomous territory. The payment for such autonomy is the money that the island simultaneously pays to the budgets of Uganda and Kenya. But even with such harsh taxes, the income of the local population is many times higher than that of their fellow citizens on the mainland. On the island one can observe the maturation of a capitalist society in miniature. By local standards, fishermen actually earn quite a lot: earnings on the island are several times more than on the mainland. Fishermen are paid in cash. In addition, some kind of infrastructure has developed on the island itself, and now you can live here for months. And the plight in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania is encouraging more and more people to come to Migingo. I think that perhaps in the future this island will be the same as I depicted it. The sculpture is made of metal. You can watch the video of the work here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/sAm3WQtMLSmJT6mx7

Zaborovsky Evgen Live and work in Ukraine. I gained a lot of knowledge on the technology of creating art objects, sculptural compositions not only from traditional materials, but also from modern materials that create unusual shapes, textures and, ultimately, an interesting embodiment of the artist’s plan. Electric welding.... This is my love!!!! Melting metal is magic! Magic that brings results is not always predictable, but in any case interesting. Viewers rarely think about how much effort and labor was invested in creating the sculpture. They don’t see all this noise, dust, scraps of metal, heat from burning metal, burns, blinding eyes; it’s difficult for them to imagine the whole atmosphere in which works are created. But the work always succeeds, because I do it with love for noise, for warmth, and I don’t want anything else! The image technique, of which I am the author, combines three components: embossing, electric welding, epoxy resin. Embossing is about shape and volume. Electric welding is all about texture and texture. Epoxy resin is depth. When I prepare a work for pouring resin, it is an exciting moment, as the final stage is approaching and the audience will soon see the work. And their assessment of their work is important to me! I am working! I keep creating...
