Movement in Purple Sculpture

Bargello is a type of needlepoint embroidery consisting of upright flat stitches laid in a mathematical pattern to create motifs. This glass abstract was created using the bargello or tapestry design technique. I first full fused a series of glass stringers in multiple colors of purple and blue to a sheet of transparent glass. After the firing, I cut the colored sheet into 1/4" strips of glass. I played with the strips, moving them around on my work table and turning some upside down until I created a pattern I liked. I cut the strips in a way that allowed me to keep the pattern, arranged them on a second piece of clear sheet glass and added a purple border. I fused all the pieces together into a 10" x 10" tile. The tile is displayed in a tall black metal stand.
