Mr Scruff the Pigeon Sculpture

I am fascinated by the world of wildlife that inhabit our urban city’s, seen but not seen, valued but also considered an irritant. Mr Scruff is a character of the city, he is a happy go lucky survivor, he is scruffy, dusty and hidden by the tumbling wind-blown papers and newsprint. but his beauty shines through his once glossy feathers gentle nature. I aim for Mr Scruffs character to be gently humorous but tender. He is a reminder of the all the mini worlds that survive in our city’s. I choose wire to sculpt the figure with as it represents the gestural lines I like to sketch with. I used hand dyed scrunched up news print to stuff the body with as pigeons remind me of screwed up newsprint on the streets, a beautiful gold doily and colourful embroidery thread Were also used to represent his beauty.
