My Father Made This For Ice Fishing When He Was A Kid Sculpture

I use personal artifacts as focal points for my sculpture, as I am interested in how value is assigned to objects. This work starts with a handmade ice-fishing pole my father made as a child, kept in my grandparents' barn in eastern Pennsylvania. I make forms around the found objects that often hang from traditional American Shaker pegs, and reference the furniture of the Shakers often in this body of work. The Shakers believe in the transcendent capabilities of handmade objects, and that is at the core of this work.
