This piece was created in reaction to the story of the establishment of the Trinity River Audubon Center in Dallas, TX. Referencing the Audubon Society's focus on birds, I wanted to present a nest with a symbolic egg. The egg, as the title suggests is a metaphor for the African American community of Pleasant Grove/ Deadwood emerging victorious, reclaiming the neighborhood despite unimaginable obstacles in the way, including white flight, illegal dumping, a segregated housing market and even push back from the City of Dallas. Usually attributed to an era before 1964, the anti-black initiatives enacted in Pleasant Grove were far more current: the illegal dumping being established (through city authorized permits) in 1985, the dump officially closed in 1997. The Trinity River Audubon Center was an agreed compromise as a means to cover up and terraform the massive trash heap because the city could not afford the $100 million price tag to remove the trash.

email is sdtompkins at live.com IG is stacytompkinsart I have work available in every price point Two-dimensional work: Inspired by microscopy images, themes of spiritual energy and hidden knowledge, my work explores the invisible realms in which we are enveloped, but rarely acknowledge. Sculpture: My mixed media sculptures focus on the psyche, ritual and meaning-making. The works deconstruct the transcultural aspects of ritual, sacred tool/ ritual object evolution, and the role biology plays in the archetypal development of deities. The pieces raise questions surrounding the origins of belief and spiritual identity.
