About The Artwork

The making process began in early January, at the very beginning of lockdown. Following the making of the frame using chicken wire, modroc and expanding foam, an obsessive and often laborious process began. This involved layers upon layers of liquid latex, both clear and milky, poured onto various surfaces along with an assortment of washers, copper curtain rings producing a copper leak of colour into the latex, and a sprinkling of coffee granules for colour and texture. The latex was arduously patch attached with pins and wrapped around the thinner parts of the tentacles, with the skin being brushed with latex in between each layer. Rubber grommets became suckers, and a split bauble became the eyes. Ophelia was finished the day Boris announced the roadmap to freedom. Having inhabited the entire kitchen during her creation, Ophelia sets off on an explorative journey to find her true sense of home. Unrestricted. Ophelia Unrestricted is a documentation of the octopus placed in juxtaposition to its surroundings... in the middle of the road, on a window sill, on top of a car... Octopus, alien of the sea, symbol of transformation.

London born and based artist with an interest in stereotypical gender and societal associations. Studying sculpture at Camberwell College of Art and Sir John Cass in London, encouraged the joining of sculpture and performance. A recently occurring spin off into various creative tangents has enabled a progression of practice into previously unexplored areas. From a sculptural core, the 'typically feminine' psychosocial trait of producing obsessive work is often playfully explored, involving a repetitive and / or arduous process. This repetition works alongside meticulousness and / or a visceral fleshification with bumpy surfaces or clusters, which become an embracement of trypophobia. The recycling and manipulation of everyday household objects such as curtain hooks, plastic wine glasses and metal washers, along with traditional DIY and art materials such as expanding foam, modroc, liquid latex and ink, creates a rebirth of the quotidien... Sculptural objects emerge as bestial, insectile or mollusc creatures. These can either stand alone in their own form or unify, wherein the objects interact with each other to create a collective narrative. The creatures evolve through performative extension by having a photographic documentation of their interaction with space / artist. This creates a series of images of object in juxtaposition to its surroundings. The extension develops further through a sculptural dissection, wherein elements of the object are isolated, collated and digitally manipulated to create a redefinition of the subject. The creatures perform, extend, warp, reformulate, fragment, articulate and multiply.
