Norman Gekko is an emerging artist who delights in parodying the hypocrisy and excesses of western culture. Most often, Gekko produces multiple individual pieces of work as part of a series (inbred series, Beehives etc); willingly and enthusiastically generating new works with intensity, until exhausting both the subject and the artist. This sculpture belongs to his “Paper balls” series. With the "Paper balls" Norman Gekko continues his fascination for transforming unremarkable waste items; in this case the ubiquitous tin can, into visually attractive works of art. Be it a discarded receipt, a shopping list or an abandoned letter of undying love; crumbled paper balls represent a written record of our lives, where the most significant and mundane are tossed aside with equal impunity.
