Bio Mars Gomes, was born in Mozambique and left the country during the civil war , emigrating to the UK in 1988. In 1990 she completed a Fine Art BA at Central St Martins College of Art followed by a Masters in Conceptual Anthropology at the University College London. In the early stages of her career she was represented by Acte de Naissance ( a French Arts organization) exhibiting regularly in Europe and Britain. Towards the end of the last century and early 21st century, she set up the Studio Voltaire Gallery in London, where she curated art exhibitions, promoted community art projects and produced work. In 2005 she moved to Berlin for a short while where she set up another studio and produced work, followed by an artists block when she decided to become a chef. In 2012 she returned to art, having since partly curated the ‘Bad Behaviour’ Annual Open in South London, and exhibited in NYC and London. In 2015 she teamed up with a group of artists worried with the rise of poverty in London with ‘ The Poor Door’ exhibition, short listed for the Artliks Prize . Recent publications of her work are featured in New Directions #1 Exhibooks Publishers, Average Art Magazine December 2016 and January 2017 issues. In January she participated in the ‘Nasty Women Exhibition’ at the Knockdown Centre in NYC. In March this year she is exhibiting in the group show ‘ Trans, Gender and Psychoanalysis ’ part of the SIte for Comtemporary Psychoanalysis symposium in London.
