About The Artwork

'Proto Pod' was made for an Art in the Garden Exhibition and a sweet pea pod is responsible for inspiring me to make it. I like the radiant green of the real fresh green pod and the top knot on top. So I transformed this into a bronze piece with a polished bronze interior, radiating warmth which contrasts the waxed chestnut brown austere exterior. I really enjoyed making the top knot on top.

Show Case, Dublin 2002, 2003 Shane is available for commissions and all works can be purchased through his website www.shanejacksonstudio.com Statement Shane Jackson’s sculptural practice is deeply rooted in the laws of physics. Time, space and movement are at the core of his engagement with his art practice. These explorations are evident by looking at how his pieces sit within the environment from which they seek to explore. Artists use physics to understand, utilise and experiment with their materials, just as Physicists use art to help them visualise abstract aspects of the physical world. It is through close examination, exploration and dedication that Jackson creates representations of these concepts. That in turn gives form and character to that which we cannot see. By investigating the particles and forces that underlie nature’s structure, Jackson aims to find a resolve between how these ever present, non-visible forces play and meld together to form the character of our landscape. Shane explores the anticipation of movement acceptance, character and engagement through colour, reflection and stance to evoke an emotional response. In order to charge his ideas, he enters a transformative process which is playful, melding the language of aesthetics, form and character, enabling him to express his views and fears on how we all relate to ourselves and the world around us. “On any given day when approaching the making of a sculpture I am in a state of awareness, inquisitiveness and reflection. There is also elation and self-questioning along the way, which when coupled with the mercurial nature of the material at hand and the concentration the technical process demands, results in time slipping by, as my focus sharpens.
