Sea Rhythym Sculpture

I have loved and worked stone all my life; from bringing back pieces of chalk from the South Downs to work in my bedroom as a young child to making carvings for Churches and Cathedrals later on, it has been central to who I am. Sea Rhythm was inspired watching seaweed fronds waving in the water off the South Wales Coast U.K. Their rhythmical undulation inspired me to try to capture something in stone. The stone is a grey/green/brown sandstone called Woodkirk and suitable for the subject. It was hand carved using hammer and chisels and smoothed with rifflers ( a type of rasp used by carvers ) and finally carborundum block.The centre sphere represents a pearl or egg and is gilded. The whole piece is ready to be either placed indoors, (particularly suitable for an alcove) or outside in a garden setting.
