Seasons Sculpture

For me, sculpture is a language of form which requires that scale, materials, pose, mass, space, and composition must all be congruent within it's language. These figures were—in part—inspired by Michelangelo's Dawn and Dusk; Day and Night figures in the Medici Tomb. I created this composition to suggest the various "seasons"—both inner and outer—in a young girl's life. Scale is very important to me. Many of my sculptures are quite large, each containing three quarter-life-sized figures. I find that figures smaller than full-size have the most potential to draw the viewer into the imaginary world in which the sculptural figures live. These small bronzes—some of which are gold-leafed—are meant to be precious, personal treasures.
