This listing is for a Spirit Boat with a rowing Fox. This particular piece is extremely special to me ( and I have been hesitating posting it publicly). The boat and fox are separate, and the fox sits in a seize (kneeling) position and holds a fine wooden, beautifully carved paddle. In Shamanism, the Spirit Boat is considered a spiritual journey a person or spirits may take between the mundane world and the Spiritual world. Raku is an ancient Japanese Ceramic glazing technique in which the objects are glazed, fired and smoked. There is a great element of the unknown at work and it is very difficult to control the outcomes. Therefore one must really try to have no expectation. During the firing process, after reaching 950 C, they are placed quickly into reduction chambers with paper and wood chips. This is where the magic happens. This is a Reduction process, with the combustibles essentially starving the ceramics of oxygen, thus pulling it from the Oxides in the glazes. After 5 to 10 minutes, the objects are removed carefully and lowered into water. Fire, Wood, Smoke, Water, Air. Love.

I am a multi-disciplinary artist based in Sitges, Spain, near to Barcelona. I create paintings, ceramic sculptures and fiber art. I started my art career as a street artist as a teenager. I loved the dynamism of graffiti, the rebellion and expression. I filled my portfolio with pictures of my murals, and got myself into Art School, Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver. Art school introduced me to many new ideas. Although I majored in Sculpure, I found myself leaning towards Paintings, and finally I started experimenting with Installation and Public Intervention. I travelled to India and Thailand. This changed things. I wanted to make political art, or do projects which helped people. Later I moved to the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where I was introduced to Conceptual Art. I have exhibited in Tokyo, Japan, Toronto and Barcelona. The last few years I have focused on Fiber- Art installations and Raku Ceramic Sculpture. Now after several years hiatus, I am back to making Paintings. I found making abstract paintings very liberating. I love it!
