To create the texture shown, dried oil paint was collected from the artist's friend's palette, then repurposed onto the surface. In addition to the used paint, the "studio leftovers" incorporated into this piece include an empty roll of masking tape, which the artist painted in oil with a blue gradient.The light blue base of the piece is layered with a subtle alizarin crimson glaze, emphasize the piece's crisp edges. About Artistic Waste As part of her practice, the artist collects and repurposes leftover materials from the art-making process. This “artistic waste” includes dried oil paint scraped from painters' palettes—both thick, goopy balls of oil paint as well as thin, film-like acrylic textures. She repurposes graphite and charcoal pencil shavings, used masking tape, and other found objects such as used paint tubes and paper palettes. Unlike more traditional artistic mediums, artistic waste cannot be purchased or manufactured; it must be generated from past creation. These materials serve as artifacts of the creative process, telling the visual story of artistic pursuit. Installation Details To be displayed on a pedestal, table, or other flat surface.
