Study of a man 2016 Patinated bronze This the first figure I sculpted from a life model. It is a male study, standing in a traditional contraposto, looking grounded and complete. This sculpture has personal significance, but in being a study he's also a sort of blank slate. His stance seems to ask for a story, but there are no markers of status, beliefs or past experience. He is grounded and confident, and he gazes with a sense of purpose. Perhaps he's sizing up a journey that's ahead of him. --- Edition of 9 plus one artist proof (pictured). For casting of this bronze I use the services of MST Bronze in Toronto, Ontario (mstbronze.com), a fine art foundry established in 1983. Upon placing an order, please allow 6-8 weeks for manufacture before shipping. Please reach out to me via the "Contact artist" button on my profile if you have any questions. I would love to hear your feedback!

I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1981, and moved to Toronto in 2006. I studied electronics engineering and made a good career in software development, but ultimately discovered that sculpture had been at the heart of who I was my whole life. I've played with clay since I was a child, when my parents would buy me plasticine in multi-coloured packages, and I remember lumping all the colours together so that I could have a larger amount of clay to play with, and take with me everywhere I went. When I became a teenager I managed to forget this love of clay -something to do with play and adulthood being incompatible- but almost two decades later it found me once again, ready to be applied to all my grown-up concerns. The figure is my main subject. It is a building block as well as an end unto itself. I'm currently working on a series dealing with intimacy, vulnerability and sexuality, where I'm exploring the way we represent the male and the female. I hope to produce optimistic work that contributes to our reinvention of the genders and our reincorporation of the figure to contemporary sculpture.
