About The Artwork

Explanation: Change in general is hard and difficult. When you want to change something you have to try hard and be patient. Change requires will and strength. The bigger the change the bigger the effort that has to be done. There comes a time when everyone realizes they have to change something. It is hard, and the harder you try the more you remember. And eventually you will remember how things were before you made that change. Change can be about bad habits, partners, job, life etc. This piece is composed of several X-rays, most of which showing an oral condition of patients that required change. Some conditions are more serious and some less but they all required change. These X-rays are pictures that signify moments of realization (from the dentist and the patient) that change has to be made. The artwork aims to act as a metaphor for dental change and change concerning self, partners, habits and other important aspects of life. Few words: They say that dentists remember patients by their teeth. And I would say that this is indeed true. You might not remember names, not even faces, but you will always remember what you saw, and what you did for that. You remember what existed there, and made you realize it was time for change, and you tried hard to change it , but you will always have a clear memory of how it was before changing. And since memories are stored in the temporal lobe of the brain, I guess this project represents the dentist’s temporal lobe. Technical specifications: Title: The dentist’s temporal lobe. ARTIST STATEMENT: When I begin a new work of art, I am at peace. My ideas are not so much premeditated but rather led within each moment. I will think on a subject that is important to me for some time but it is within the moment of creation that the idea truly unfolds into something bigger. As a commentary on critical social issues, my work is intended to invoke conversation and a deeper exploration of their very existence and their ongoing effects on the world around us. These topics may include mental health, warfare, food & health, immigration, drug addiction or environmental destruction. I may also reflect on topics such as love, music and the struggles of life and transitions. My work examines the intricate details of each issue and the cyclical, hypocritical nature of our society at large. Each piece is very specific and has an expanded meaning and a deeper message. Every detail you see adds to that overall message. My belief is that you can like something that looks beautiful but you can only love something that means something deeper to you and emotionally touches you. It is at this moment when the artist and the viewer can walk through the same thought patterns. When I am deciding on a piece and the materials to use, it is serendipitous and is connected only to the moment of creation. I believe that each technique and each material has a right place and a right time and each one becomes the bridge that allows me to express my thoughts in a unique and creative way.
