The Other One Flew Away Sculpture

A form of lyrical expression, my work serves as emotionally laden diaries in which various hand-held tools become implements to write metaphorically. Through the physical act of making, aesthetic design decisions are made based on my emotional state at that given moment. Form and process work in tandem— in harmony not conflict. As unique marks on the skin, imperfections in the surface quality of the material, such as bumps or marks, serve as a starting point for my creative process. Through the figure and incorporation of clay and alternative materials, my work continues this investigation to document ethereal, fleeting expressions. “The Other one flew away” depicts a resilient woman recovering from a lost. With scars so deep she withdraws from the imminent world, as she goes through the difficult stages of the healing process, she peels away her scabs and the world around her attempts to peek in.
