The Social Contract Sculpture

This work is reflecting on the nature of comfort that comes in various shapes. I was inspired by the contrast of the free and independent spirit of a cat and its choice to become a human pet. It has traded its freedom for comfort and safety. I find there an analogy with humans living in the civilized world bound by the social agreement. I choose to combine a gracious sphinx cat with unworthy looking cardboard box to create a contrast that emphasize the simplicity of our basic values. The cardboard box is a cheap commodity and yet the cat seems to find it as the most comforting place to be. The material characteristics of wax represents mortality of all the living.
