The Tyrannocycle Sculpture

This piece was born out of misfortune. It was originally planned to be a small dragon, three feet long from nose to tail. After getting stuck on the rear haunches I moved into the head which quickly outgrew the body. Struggling to find proportion, a tricycle I had made earlier that year provided the foundation of what was to come. As I filled in the substructure, bringing this piece to life, it was hard not to reflect on how beautiful it is to see the old compliment the new. The image of an elderly person teaching a child how to ride a tricycle sat in my head for weeks before I realized what the piece was trying to say to me. The Tyrannocycle is the manifestation of that elderly person's emotions, forever young at heart, regardless of how the world sees them.
