About The Artwork

For me, Tigers are one of the most magic and fascinating animals. I love their mysterious nature, their love of water. I am so saddened by their coming extinction. I am fascinated with the idea of making objects and creatures which give the illusion of being in the water. This swimming tiger is simply magnificent. Love him sooooooo much. I have done a new series focusing on Big Cats and especially Tigers this time. I have been playing and experimenting with letting the painting and illustration carry more of the work. So this involves making small figures quite blobby and abstract in shape. It is challenging because sometimes I forget the original vision. I have also used an Opal/ Iris Luster. This is very difficult to catch on photo, as it is an Iridescence that needs to be played in light. When I was a child I use to collect small Porcelain Animal Ceramics. So I have made a small series of ceramic miniatures for collectibles. I think they are a nice gift for a child or an animal lover. For the Porcelain pieces: These are carefully hand formed, then dried for slowly to prevent cracking. Once bone-dry they are Bisque fired. After, I paint the bottoms with a wax resist. Each piece is then carefully hand-painted each with Chrysanthos underglazes, often needing 2 or 3 coats. In this miniature series, this process has taken me several months. Then they are dipped in a clear coat, and fired again, this time to a temperature of 1250 C. The Gold Lustered pieces are fired a 3rd time to 700 C.

I am a multi-disciplinary artist based in Sitges, Spain, near to Barcelona. I create paintings, ceramic sculptures and fiber art. I started my art career as a street artist as a teenager. I loved the dynamism of graffiti, the rebellion and expression. I filled my portfolio with pictures of my murals, and got myself into Art School, Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver. Art school introduced me to many new ideas. Although I majored in Sculpure, I found myself leaning towards Paintings, and finally I started experimenting with Installation and Public Intervention. I travelled to India and Thailand. This changed things. I wanted to make political art, or do projects which helped people. Later I moved to the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where I was introduced to Conceptual Art. I have exhibited in Tokyo, Japan, Toronto and Barcelona. The last few years I have focused on Fiber- Art installations and Raku Ceramic Sculpture. Now after several years hiatus, I am back to making Paintings. I found making abstract paintings very liberating. I love it!
