About The Artwork

In the beginning there were pieces of ebony, handfuls of clay, and later bars of iron fired red hot. Then man (was he African? Native American?) gave them a quintessential shape to embody all his joys, terrors and hopes. Centuries later, after passing from hand to hand in a thousand deals, after voyaging, being forgotten and found again, the object has come down to us intact, releasing its secrets and emotions like a black box retrieved from the depths of the sea. It is this experience that has moved me so deeply, again and again, stirring up powerful memories of my early days, memories of innocence, sheer joy, and a feeling of wonder in the act of creating. Today, through my work, I strive to go back to that time. My works are deliberately silent. They are meant to be benevolent witnesses for those who own them, glowing with the same feelings that inspired their creation. Jean Feldman

Jean Feldman, former advertising director, is the founder of FCA, a major creative agency of the 1980s. In 1993, he decided to withdraw from advertising, but the creator did not stop his adventure! "The workshop has always been my island, my lair, where I hide my muses... The workshop is a constant in my creative journey ... It is first of all that of the school of my childhood. I still keep in the palm of my hand the memory of the freshness of modeling clay. "A bit later, my father's leather workshop, disappointed by my high school underachievement, wanted to teach me his trade. "I loved the feel of the leather, its African smells, and even today I can still make a "lady's bag". I don't forget the workshop at the Jullian Academy, the boredom of the plaster models, the wonderful smell of linseed oils.   And then for thirty years the workshops of the advertisement have been places of happiness, of unforgettable creative tensions. This is where I finally went to college, studied Fine Arts, and had the chance to meet all the contemporary talents. Today it is still in my workshop, my factory, that this mystical complicity is created between my imagination and my hand. Welcome to my workshop! »
