About The Artwork
Urban Wood reflects the worldwide present big city CBD. The object is made from 18th and 19th century solid oak. The oak was acquired during a refurbishment of a very old hotel (AD 1398). The 40 columns (1.5x1.5 inch) got a double mitre 45 degree top cut. Recesses and nail holes, marking the former connections, were left in tact. The soffit of each column has a countersunk metal bolt that clicks to a flush recessed magnet in the black oak base. This allows a random arrangement of the 40 columns. Four different colours are applied to the roofs. All columns have an unequal length. Different arrays (3x8 and 4x12) and smaller column size (1x1 inch) can be made to order.
