About The Artwork

Growing up in a labour-class family I often had seen clumsy, gloomy, congested colonies of houses and the people's struggle to earn money and live a happy life. I want everyone to feel the struggle and the journey of these people which may cause immense stress or depression in their lives. They being the core of any country or any society one must think about their mental and physical wellbeing seriously... In my art work I try to tell the narrative of eternal human search for home. I consider my sculpture as an effort to document the enduring journey of migrant workers for survivals. The process of working on this sculpture series initiated when I started living between Mumbai and Kolkata and also traveled a lot between Delhi and Jaipur for my art practice. By this time, I get chance to closely observe the life of migrant working class people in different metro cities, who Came from their village to cities for earning and do most of the laborious work of the urban life. Specially congested slum structure of Mumbai attracts my attention. The potent source of my sculpture is my exposer to the overcrowded and jumbled up environment of slams and marshland and line of huts along the railway track. My childhood memory of living in a jute industrial belt -the stuffy and unpleasant living condition also leave a deep impression on my art practice. My work expresses my experience of journey for my art-and also a journey to interior in search of inner self.
