The sculpture with the title Dress rappresents a simple Origami paper folding translated in stone. My point of interest is to transfer the sense of lightness of a sheet of paper to a for nature heavy material as stone, to fold the stone. In this specific sculpture I even tried to develop one step mo...

About the Artist

Verena Mayer-Tasch

Italy

Verena Mayer-Tasch was born in Mainz, Germany, in 1968. After professional training as a carpenter, she graduated in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara in 1996, the city where she chose to settle and where she has developed her artistic research. Her artistic path originates from the encounter between two profoundly different materials: wood, an organic and lived material connected to her early training, and Carrara marble, an ancient stone and a symbol of the Western sculptural tradition. From this dialogue emerges a research focused on the transformation of matter and on the relationship between what endures and what is destined to disappear. Through an essential and poetic language, Mayer-Tasch explores the memory of the moments that life allows to slip away: everyday gestures, childhood objects, absent presences, and natural forms become universal symbols capable of evoking shared human experiences. Her artistic production unfolds through several cycles of research. During the 1990s, she explored the physical relationship with matter through works characterized by the combination of organic elements, geometric structures, and different materials. She later developed the series **Games/Toys**, in which simple and ancestral childhood objects — such as spinning tops, little boats, and pinwheels — are transformed into marble sculptures, becoming images of wonder and memory. Between 2008 and 2012, her research focused on perception and on the boundary between the visible and the invisible, through perforated surfaces, textures, and veils that become metaphors for the complexity of inner experience. With the **Origami** cycle, begun in 2012, she further investigates the relationship between fragility and permanence: forms born from the lightness of paper are translated into the solidity of marble, transforming folds, fabrics, and symbolic objects into timeless presences. Since 2020, she has developed the project **Vegetal Diary**, a research dedicated to the cycle of life through the symbolism of leaves. Natural forms, carved in Carrara marble, narrate transition, transformation, and the beauty of fulfilment, celebrating the continuity between birth, growth, and dissolution. In 2015, she founded **Studio Marmore+** in Carrara, her own atelier, where she continues her daily exploration of stone sculpture.
