ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"human cubes 143" consists of over 143 wooden cubes. Each and every cube has been hand ground on all six sides including the edges. The cubes were then connected with glue and completely sealed with epoxy resin and clear varnish for additional stability. This results in a robust, shiny surface and gives the larch wood a warm, reddish brown colour. Similar to the "human flow" series, the artist tries to approach the human form with simple, geometric shapes. An old, disused larch beam from a barn serves as the base. This was first brushed, colored with white casein paint and then sanded. The base of this work of art is a granite stone (19.3 x 19.3 x 3 cm) For transport, the sculpture can be easily separated from the larch beam using a plug-in system and reassembled. All sculptures by Manfred Hellweger are unique.

CREATIVE PROCESS AND INSPIRATION Manfred Hellweger questions the meaning and value of existence, the world and humanity. His distinctive sculptures are mainly made of wood, metal and stone. Hellweger uses simple shapes such as cubes, strips, boards, nails or shaped tubes. Using a variety of techniques, the individual parts are connected to create mostly figurative works that taper towards the base. Through this process, Manfred Hellweger's sculptures evoke a sense of vertical dissolution, symbolizing the perpetual change of our time. Everything changes and develops, nothing remains the same. Each piece embodies Hellweger's credo, “less of everything rather than more”, reflecting a philosophy of simplicity and contentment that extends beyond art.
