this one's for you Sculpture

Neon signs belong to everyone collectively. However, when you stand in its glow, it can be for you exclusively. This ambivalence is what gives neon its staying power. This allows for a genuine sentiment to be shared on a personal level with anyone who sees the sign. There’s something amazing about neon light. It’s the radiance, the color, the way the electricity and neon dance. this one’s for you David. Late night phone calls about art, about clouds, about nothing. I was familiar with the fluorescent light work of Dan Flavin, but with the way you talk about him I want to know everything. You tell me about an installation in the Guggenheim from 1992, Untitled (to Tracy, to celebrate the love of a lifetime). Handwritten because my typed words more and more meant nothing. I may not have the Guggenheim, but I do have a little window space in midtown Manhattan. I hope one day you’ll want to see it. I’ll leave the light on for you.
