Creative Style of the Russian artist Elena Slastnikova isformedon the basis of a diverse art education, poetic world views and individual sculptural feeling of the master. The artist comes to the most organic expression of her ideas and images of the ceramic material by the sculptor’s way of thinking. In 1995, Elena graduated from The Sculpture Department of the Chelyabinsk Art School, in 2003 — The Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design. The richest artistic traditions of the city on the Neva river, its intellectual and metaphysical space had a great influence on the work of the master. In the Ceramic Department Elena studied with recognized masters, among them there were talented artists M. Y. Kapustin and O. L. Nekrasova-Karateeva. Synthesizing subtle perception of the material of the St. Petersburg Ceramic Schooland plastic vision of the sculptor, the artist works with the methods ofform making of stratum. Her creative method is distinguished by the ability to maintain a delicate transfer of аfeeling of a live line, lightness and natural plasticity of the material — as in the sketch. The author’s discovery is a connection between relief and graphics on the same surface: realistic figures are dematerialized in the background;the volume delicately turns into a line. The artist describes her favorite creative method as follows: «For me a ceramic layer isas the sheet of paper on which I draw and have the ability to identify the relief.» A plastic of a nude model takes a special place in the artist’s creative work.There you can see theobvious stylistically impeccable classical roots. In the series «Torsos» the silhouette of a female figure shows as if through a thin cloth. It provokes the associations with an ancient Hellenistic sculpture and reliefs. One of the leading theme in the Elena Slastnikova’sworks is a creation of a perfect female image, a female archetype. In her own way, she redefinesin the material this timeless image in the art of different cultures, Elena creates the series «Aegean maidens», «Greek motives», «Venuses», «Torsos». The archaic image of the mother is revealed in the works «Zhenky» and «Dellma». In the images of «Aegean maidens», in their fluctuating silhouettes, the viewer, who is acquainted with a world history of art, will see the reminiscences of the famous Cretan paintings and original reading of the canons of the human image in the art of ancient Crete.
