About The Artwork

Step into a realm where music meets visual art in a harmonious fusion of creativity, inspired by Modest Mussorgsky's "Old Castle" from "Pictures at an Exhibition." This captivating collage transports you to a bygone era, where the haunting notes of Mussorgsky's saxophone are beautifully rendered in a mosaic of images and textures. The heart of this collage is the central image of an ancient, weathered castle, perched atop a craggy hill. Its towering spires and crumbling stone walls evoke a sense of history, mystery, and nostalgia. if you look closely at the collage, you will be able to spot a saxophone that pay homage to Mussorgsky's.

Hi, my name is Andrew Katz. I am a musician and a visual artist. I make collages because I believe that great diversity can create a beautiful whole; And In a way, I believe that our universe is very much like a collage. If you look around you will notice – all around there is room for harmony, spectrum of contrasts, collisions and distinctive shades. I translate this to my art. I was born in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk, a small city in Western-Ukraine in 1959. My first spark of love towards art originated when I was just 6 years old; Then, it was music – which slowly developed into different styles of visual art. For me, it just made sense: The sounds became colours, rhythm became textures – and so a picture was born. For the last 15 years my focus was on collages. I hope you enjoy it!
