About The Artwork
I love working in collage and this was one of the first in a series I did that reflects the symbolism of Indigenous artwork. When working with collage items, I usually begin with a predominant image and then build my painting around it. In this case it was the intriguing mask in the upper right corner. After that i create my color scheme and find other materials that will help the view move his/her eyes around the piece. The warm palette of colors and the arresting symbols evoke a feeling of comfort, and pleasure for me. Indigenous artwork is very elemental and always something quite universal in its reach.
