About The Artwork

I started working on "The Ego's Home" in March 2020, exactly during the initial spread of the pandemic, and I ended it in April 2020. One month long has been the time to realize this work, even if the idea behind comes much further away and is connected to my interest in deepening the concepts of Identity and Time. This piece presents a spiritual journey made in my ego's home filled with things recovered from abandonment, sheets of notes scattered everywhere, and materials of any kind. This work looks like a visual narrative telling about my journey to find myself. The house represents the intimate place where I deal with myself. It has 17 rooms and a central core. Each room is a station where something spiritual happens. To create this work I used pieces of cardboard, dried flowers, and sheets of parcel paper that I wrote down randomly. Each sheet describes in the Italian language what is happening in my mind. It's a symbolic journey from dark to light.

My life began in Italy, in a small town nestled between the sea and the mountains. "Teate Degli Abruzzi", meaning, the "Land of Shepherds", is a wild and archaic territory where I spent most of my youth in close contact with the surrounding nature. My parents always told me that I began creating before I started talking. Indeed, some of my earliest memories are of days spent entirely gathering, reimagining, and crafting life from discarded things. Over the years, I have utilized the unique nature and dynamics of a multitude of materials – whether organic, inorganic, or synthetic – morphing them into new imagery and imbuing them with a new identity. Materials speak to me aloud. Despite their imperfections, rawness, and precariousness, they contain forces beyond our control in a continuous fluctuation between ephemerality and resilience. To this day, exploring the surroundings and gathering whatever inspires me is still the core of my practice. My process is led by a feeling of the transience of life which I strive to rehabilitate into a timeless dimension. I have exhibited extensively in Italy, Europe, and the US with critical acclaim since 1990. I've been living in the United States since 2015 working with numerous galleries across the country. I continue to investigate mixed media techniques as vehicles to embody my experiences and my vision of life.
