About The Artwork

We see Albert Einstein making a thought experiment. He is riding a bicycle in the dark with his bicycle light on. Doesn't one have to add the speed of the bicycle to the speed of light now, what is not possible according to Einstein? According to Einstein's theory of relativity, one does not need to add the speed of the bicycle to the speed of light. This is because the speed of light is considered an absolute limit and is constant for all observers. As Einstein on his bicycle measures the speed of light emitted from the bicycle light, he will still find it to be moving at the speed of light relative to him, regardless of the bike velocity. This is due to the time dilation and length contraction effects that occur at high speeds, which prevent the addition of velocities in the same way as classical Newtonian mechanics. The fundamental principles of special relativity ensure that the speed of light remains unchanged regardless of the motion of the source or observer.

I am Luxembourg-born scientific illustrator and artist living in Hanover, Germany. For a couple of decades I was a copywriter for Honeywell Bull, Nokia and Siemens. Then I slowly slipped into computer graphics. I specialized in illustrating molecules and fullerenes for a long time. In 1988 I received a recognition of the Prix Ars Electronica for my graphic "Funnel". In 2023 I started doing AI illustrations. I live together with my partner Elke Leger, my favorite photo subject, and a turtle named George.
