About The Artwork

Here's the prompt we gave Midjourney: „Photo of the process that takes place in the text-to-image software with artificial intelligence at the first moment of generation.“ 28% of the images feature a human (typically a woman) and a robot (or cyborg). Both seem to be communicating. Since the robot is mostly depicted as larger than the human, we could infer that the robot's size is a measure of its inherent (artificial) intelligence. The robots consistently exhibit humanoid traits and are by no means frightening (with one exception perhaps). We can interpret these images as follows: The human tells the robot what task it should help solve, and that's precisely what it does. However, we don't see any results. That's a pity because I would have loved to witness the creation of an image.

I am Luxembourg-born scientific illustrator and artist living in Hanover, Germany. For a couple of decades I was a copywriter for Honeywell Bull, Nokia and Siemens. Then I slowly slipped into computer graphics. I specialized in illustrating molecules and fullerenes for a long time. In 1988 I received a recognition of the Prix Ars Electronica for my graphic "Funnel". In 2023 I started doing AI illustrations. I live together with my partner Elke Leger, my favorite photo subject, and a turtle named George.
