About The Artwork
This is one of several ink studies for a satirical painting, the inspiration, of which, is "The Birdnester", by Pieter Bruegel the elder. Studies for major works are also terrific aids in broadening the viewer's understanding of the finished piece. "BREAD" is often used as a metaphor for "TRUTH"; if that be so, then the studies for major works of art ("truth") are the "bread crumbs" left behind, leading to a full healthy meal. At the end of the journey, of course, is the finished piece. . . bon appetit!
