About The Artwork
The gila monster in this drawing is using his camouflage to blend in with his surroundings. Not at all shy, he uses his color and markings to blend in so that his prey cannot readily see him. The element of surprise is supreme. There are few shadows between the gila monster and the background - he seems suspended, just at the moment before he becomes one with the background The inspiration for "Into the Background" is the need for all animals to be able to both stand out in a crowd, and to use their abilities to embrace solitude, to hide, or to simply rest. For all of us, these are necessary needs for survival in our world.

I am an artist and graphic designer living and working in western Colorado. I hold three Bachelors of arts degrees, and I actually make use of each of them even though they are somewhat varied. I went back to school to study Fine Art (printmaking), and fell in love with learning, so I went on to get degrees in Advertising/Design and Anthropology. My primary mediums are drawing (usually sanguine and black - sometimes small spots of color) and printmaking (mezzotint and engraving). In the last 3 years, I discovered digital drawings and paintings, and this endeavor has opened new and exciting doors for me, and I have created a lot of art with this “new” media. Aside from my art, I enjoy the outdoors, music, fashion fitness and my family.
