About The Artwork

Odin's lineage remains incomplete and difficult to trace; and if Odin is named the father of all the gods, they could be nothing but each of his facets, thus bearing different hypostases. Odin is a polymorphic deity but is not an ideal being puffed of with absolute qualities. The Quest for Knowledge: perseverance Odin Peregrine around the world, observing and questioning him. When he ventured to the Fountain of Mimir, near the Jötunheim - the world of Giants -, he sacrificed an eye in order to show his willingness to drink from the source of wisdom and knowledge and to acquire the knowledge of the past, present and future. In order to push his own limits, Odin also sacrificed himself spiritually by piercing himself with his own spear on which he hung on the tree of life, Yggdrasil, tree dominating the worlds. This lasted nine days and nine nights during which the runes were revealed to him. These same runes allowed him to return from the kingdom of the dead. By analogy, Odin could in fact embody the mosaic face of humanity and embrace its qualities, true gifts as well as its weaknesses. Its ambition as well as its responsibilities fall to him. Odin does not have kindness only for humans, he knows how to show ... humanity. Balance, progression and self-fullfillment Odin, humanity at the service of his destiny Destiny would be a hidden god to which everyone submits onesself, including the gods themselves. Odin is fully aware of the Ragnarök's arrival and accepts his death. He does not try to escape it but during his whole life he prepares for it at best. Everyone is endowed. Everyone is free to use one’s gift. Destiny is not a fatality. Thus, the dignity of the man resides in his faculty to admit this part of sacred placed in him. If the Powers express themselves through any gift, it is everyone's responsibility and duty to glorify it by actively living one’s destiny, thus venerating the natural elements. Odin and the Mead of inspiration This myth indeed narrates the death of an omniscient and wise being created as a pledge of the peace sealed by Æsirs and Vanirs. Kvasir was going to teach the world wisdom to men. Here again, at the origin of the development of the science and poetry, lies the search for compensation, by a peace pact or a retribution.
