Pavel in Boots, I. Print

Pavel is a life model who poses regularly for me. As an artist drawing regularly from life you get to the models really well, and I've always had a warm spot for Pavel. So I was surprised that when he was asked to bring an object that represents who he is with him, that he chose a pair of patent leather stiletto boots. It turns out that he was kicked out of a bar in London that was meant to be for 'butch' gay men only, because he turned up wearing stilettos. It made the London newspapers and Pavel became a bit of a legend. But I hadn't realised it was him. The original of this sold to a collector in Berlin, but prints are available. I love this piece because even though it is very abstract, it is also very obviously Pavel. In boots.
