About The Artwork

With this work I want to show how life is an abstract concept which, is metaphysical, and from a Nihilistic point of view, has no eventual meaning. However, we are constantly trying to figure out the qualities which differentiate merely existing from living. Both animate and inanimate objects can exist in a space, however, only animate objects can live and have a life. The main topic of my final artwork is concept that the statement “Living Stillness” is an oxymoron, they are states of being which have opposable meanings. ‘Life’ is uncontrollable, undependable and unforeseeable. ‘Stillness’ ultimately refers to being able to have control over a situation, this characteristic cannot be attributed to life. I want to depict the concept that it is pointless to try control life – to still life – through a diary, which I will construct by hand. I will be investing copious amounts of energy into this book everyday by preparing for a final drawing exam. Each page will contain artworks based on intuition and what in order to be as authentically myself as I can. A few pages will be pre-planned in order to provide me with a longer period to process events and emotions so that I can properly depict them in the book. I want this book to always be evolving like a living thing as well as be an extension of me. Due to the artwork being a book, forces viewers to participate in the art, which is animated with each new interaction and as more new energy is invested into it, the artwork becomes more substantial as its existence is acknowledged through participation. The only compensation, as an artist, I could hope to receive, to make my life meaningful, other than making and possibly selling art, is the possibility of having a legacy. Which, if I am so fortunate to have one, would only occur posthumously. Therefore, having viewers willingly engage in viewing my artwork and appreciating art I’ve deeply invested in, animates me in turn.
