About The Artwork

In my artistic project, inspired by Maya culture, I embarked on a spiritual journey reconnecting with humanity's primitive roots and nature. "The Place Where Paths End" began at Xar, an art & architecture laboratory, provided by Roger Kanek, my guide into the Maya worldview. I explored a "death drive," a survival instinct lost in modern life, inspired by filmmaker Humberto Mazariegos's vision of death. Sketching in charcoal, I depicted this primal force, influenced by nature's elements. Venturing into Maya culture, I explored Sololá's landscapes, guided by Roger. Nature shaped my work, culminating in a rocky path to the project site, carrying a canvas symbolizing the weight of Holy Week. Inspired by a sacred Maya stone, I interpreted an entity among the undergrowth, merging my friend's vision with the surroundings. "Keme," death, represents a life force renewing our souls, depicted in the work. My Nahual, Iq’, the wind, symbolizes the direction leading to this creation. The piece reflects on Maya glyphs, returning a man-made object to nature for redefinition. "The Place Where Paths End" symbolizes the end of one path and the beginning of another, a journey toward spiritual awakening and infinite renewal.

Carlos Jimenez finds his greatest source of inspiration in love and life. His observation of the lives that surround him, which transmit a spark to him, is the essential driving force that moves the artist to bring each work to fruition, using pieces of memories and his heart, sometimes broken, sometimes filled with unforgettable memories. His work is personal and very passionate, reflecting his sense of the search for a truth that may or may not exist. His philosophy is pragmatic, but with esoteric and passionate points of view about the meaning of life and the destiny of each person in the world. A little referenced to Albert Camus, Jimenez accepts the absurd and embraces it. To paraphrase Frédéric Beigbeder, he says, “My problem is that I don't believe in God, but I do believe in miracles.”
